High-quality, European-made left-hand drive steering rack for Mk2-on classic Minis. Unlike reproduction racks that have been available, these feature bevel cut gears on the main rack for smoother operation. These are the faster, Mk2-on ratio, so if used in a Mk1 car, you should replace the Mk1 steering arms with the BTA0894 and BTA0895 steering arms. This prevents excessive angularity of the CV joint at full lock. New racks come pre-lubed with grease, but we like to insert a little extra synthetic grease through the rack-centering hole. Ref: FAM7307, STR0057, NAM5059, 140001.
Important note: On Mk1 & Mk2 Minis is may be necessary to re-clock the pinion gear. This will allow the steering column to orient correctly to cancel the turn signals. To verify, go through the centering procedure with your original rack and the replacement. If the slot in the pinion is in a different place it should be removed and re-clocked to match.
See STR0058 for right-hand drive version.
