This bracket should be used to reduce the tendency of the exhaust header to crack. It bolts to the transmission side cover and connects to the bottom of the exhaust header to insure that the exhaust does not flex ast the engine rocks. The factory part was made out of thin mild steel and was prone to cracking. The aftermarket is made of thicker stainless steel alloy.
