Mike K.'s 2016 SCCA runoffs pre-race report

Update #1 (21-Sep-2016)|Update #2 (22-Sep-2016)

It's the end of another race season, and that means it's also SCCA Runoffs time! This year’s race is being held at the beautiful and Mini-friendly Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course; from 1998-2004, a Mini won every National Championship SCCA GT5 race at Mid-Ohio, one year even going first, second, and third, a clean sweep!

Charlie Pollet was a Mini enthusiast who defined what a fan is; he gave his time and his endless energy to every Mini racer he ever met. The 2016 SCCA GTL National Championship race was officially named "The Charlie Pollet Memorial Race"; special trophies will be presented to the podium finishers.

The Mini will be well represented at the 2016 Runoffs. Seven-sponsored Minis driven by Andy Nelson, Joel Hipp and Chris Kopley are all entered; Joe Huffaker is also entered and (even though not a Seven-sponsored Mini) we wish him all the best against very stiff competition.

Andy Nelson will be attending his very first SCCA Runoffs in the rebuilt Fortech Mini, which has been going through some needed upgrades. It was only this year that Andy decided to try SCCA racing at all, and now he is in the biggest Mini race of the year! So, come out to Mid-Ohio and see this famous Mini race in person, and be sure to check out the Fortech Mini website for great pictures. Stop by and see me (Mike Kearney) in the Fortech Mini pit area and pick up a free Fortech Racing pin to the first 50 Mini enthusiasts, compliments of Seven Enterprises.

Be sure to check the SCCA web site for live qualifying and the race. SCCA Link

Keep checking back to this page for links to qualifying and race details each day. We also will have the date for the Mini paddock party. There will be a complete race report at the end of competition including in car race footage from the Fortech Mini.
